Volkswagen will allocate three plants to Germany


Volkswagen announced on Wednesday that it will renew three plants for the production of non-emission electric vehicles in Germany in order to be ready to increase the production of such units, in line with stricter European regulations.

A Wolfsburg-based car company said it would start producing electric vehicles in its buildings in Emden and Hanover in 2022. In Zwickau, the factory was previously intended for the production of such units.

Gunnar Kilian, director of Volkswagen, said workers provided a guarantee for their employees by 2028, even though the company said it could cut jobs "in a socially responsible way" because electric vehicles require less production steps

Analysts say cars need to add electric vehicles to their offer in line with the new EU regulations on greenhouse gas emissions from 2021.

Volkswagen and other automotive companies have strongly relied on diesel engine models that have higher capacity than petrol to reach carbon dioxide limits, experts say, that greenhouse gases cause global warming. However, the sales of diesel units in Europe decreased, as it was established that Volkswagen installed a computer program to pass the stack emissions test.

For this reason, VW paid more than 28,000 million euros ($ 31,000 million) of fines, out-of-court settlements and other sanctions. In subsequent studies of diesel technology, it has been proven that other vehicle manufacturers have more emissions of nitrogen oxide under actual driving conditions than during the test. As sales of diesel vehicles are declining, manufacturers began to shift their production to electric power units in order to reach new CO2 limits, although demand is slow due to higher costs and the lack of suitable places to charge electricity Electric units account for 0.6% of vehicle sales in the EU last year .
