The Japanese blog, after sharing potential details about upcoming iPad mini, iPad, iPad Pro and iPhone 13 models earlier this week Mac Otakara now claims that Apple plans to release a second-generation AirPods Pro and a third-generation iPhone SE in April 2021, with information coming again from Chinese vendor sources.
The report claims that the new AirPods Pro will come with a slightly redesigned charging case. The report specifies that the housing will remain 21 mm thick, but will have a height of 46 mm and a width of 54 mm. The current AirPods Pro charging case is 45.2 mm high and 60.6 mm wide, so the new case will obviously be a bit narrower.
The report does not provide additional details about AirPods Pro or iPhone SE. BloombergMark Gurman has already reported that Apple wants to make the second-generation AirPods Pro more compact by removing the stem protruding from the bottom, but it’s unclear if Apple will achieve that. Gurman said Apple had a more rounded shape design that fills more ears when tested, much like Google’s Pixel Buds.
As for the iPhone SE, most rumors have focused on a larger version of the Plus-size device with a 5.5-inch or 6.1-inch screen, which analyst Ming-Chi Kuo will say in the second half of 2021. Given that The Mac Otakara describes the upcoming model as the “third generation” iPhone SE, but it’s possible that Apple intends to stick to a 4.7-inch screen like the second generation iPhone SE – it’s not clear.
Apple released the current AirPods Pro in late October 2019, while the second generation iPhone SE was released in April 2020.
