After the first partial unofficial results of the State Election Commission, the majority of voters in the municipality of Maribor convinced former mayor Franc Kangler and entrepreneur Sašo Arsenovič. After more than half of the votes counted, Arsenovich received 38 percent of the vote, while Kangler was 33 percent.
The current mayor, Andrej Fištravec, received seven percent of the votes in part, while MP Lidija Divjak Mirnik received five percent of the vote.
Kangler has an elective headquarters on Gosposka Street. Among other things, it is supported by the former radio journalist Breda Čepa, the former director of the Dravski elektrani Maribor (DEM) Viljem Pozeb, the former deputy mayor Milan Mikl and the representatives of the supporting parties SDS, SLS and SNS.

The latest public opinion poll by Večer predicted him the first place, while the second place was attributed to the political novice Arsenovič, who serves as the mayoral candidate of SMC.

At the election four years ago, Fistravec and Kangler ranked in the second round for the mayor's city. The first then won with a great advantage, as voters gave 75 percent of the votes. With his great strength, his list of candidates for the city council was won by winning 17 out of 45 seats. Second place was agreed by the SMC with six city councilors, followed by SDS with five, Kangler's Župan's list with four and SD with three seats.
