The number of people diagnosed with multiple sclerosis is increasing

Multiple sclerosis is an autoimmune disease – the immune system is struggling against the body.

Approximately 8,000 patients with multiple sclerosis live in Slovakia. "Their numbers are increasing, which can be due to early diagnosis and, in particular, prolonging the lives of patients," said Jarmila Fajnorová, president of the Slovak association Scleroris Multiplex (SZSM) for TASR.

Diffusive sclerosis

The disease affects the central nervous system, brain and spinal cord. It belongs to autoimmune diseases, i.e. Those in which the immune system fights against the body. In particular attacks the nerve fiber and damages them.

When someone is clumsy, it is often said that he has a sclerosis. Neurologist Branislav Brezhny explains that there is no sclerosis, such as sclerosis. If the disease affects the cerebral cortex, which is responsible for mental activity, there is an obvious clinical manifestation of a person with vascular sclerosis. "Multiple sclerosis is also called multiple sclerosis, as the deposits of diseases are numerous and dispersed across all brains," explained TASR Brezhny.

From the first symptoms to the development of the clinical condition of the disease can take several years. Often the first symptom is tiredness, weakness and tingling of the limbs. "The patient usually does not pay attention and does not see the doctor because this condition is not considered worrying," says a neurologist, adding that patients experience visual disturbances, urine disorders, balance disorders and walking traps.

The cause of the disease is unknown

"Multiplus sclerosis has diverse and often obscure terms. That's why diagnosis may not be easy and it can confuse the head with an experienced neurologist," Brezhny said, but the most serious problem is the limitation of start-up and fatigue. "Patients simply do not move, they will not come in. Also, the smaller exercise is suddenly weakened and must be relaxed, "Fajnor said. For more serious movement disorders, patients use sticks, sticks, strollers and wheelchairs, and the impact on the soft hand wheel makes it difficult.

Experts do not yet know the exact cause of the disease. Factor of infection is a viral infection. "After the infection, more than a hundred viruses are diagnosed," says Brezhny. Experts predict that they can affect the environment and increased hygiene standards of the population, stress, eating habits or allergies. vitamin D deficiency and smoking, especially in young women, "added Brežný.

Appearance is more common in women

"Multiple sclerosis does not occur from a tribe to a tribe, although in families where the disease has already occurred, it occurs more often than in the rest of the population," says the neurologist who appears in teenagers and twenty years, about three times longer in women than the SZSM multiple sclerosis is the most common neurological disorder leading to disability.

As a major advancement in the treatment and diagnosis of multiple sclerosis, a neurologist is considering discovering new imaging methods and introducing them into medical practice. "Image imaging with magnetic resonance is now the only imaging method that can confirm damage to nerve fiber packaging. We also evaluate the effectiveness of treatment," says Brezhny.

Progress in research has led to the emergence of a new biological treatment that can cause multiplex multiple sclerosis. "In the past, the patient was briefly diagnosed with the skeleton, and women were not recommended to have children, but today the patient has a full-life illness, can take care of the family, and the disability has moved for more than 15 years," officials of the SZSM .

The most important is nutrition

Treatment with modern medicines is financially demanding, but is fully covered by health insurance companies in Slovakia. About 2,000 patients are treated in this country, and in 2016, health insurance companies spent more than 44 million euros. "But the patient pays for vitamin supplements and reliefs, such as muscle relaxants or pain," the union said.

"In the centers for the treatment of multiple sclerosis, in addition to outpatient neurologic, they would like to have an outpatient night outpatient clinic where immediate relief can be considered for the relapse of the disease, that is a sudden decline and clinical worsening of the condition. Other health professionals, such as ophthalmologists, urologists, rehabilitation workers, psychologists, as well as a sociologist or lawyer. We want comprehensive care in one place that works in some western European countries, "Fajnor said.

Stretching with other patients is part of psychotherapy

From the Institute for Labor, Social Affairs and Family, the patient can receive contributions for various compensatory aid, renovation of the apartment without obstacles or the purchase of a car necessary for a particular transport, depending on the extent of his disability. He may apply for a disability pension in the social insurance company.

SZSM covers 25 clubs in Slovakia. For their members and others, they mostly organize educational activities and workshops of various physical activities with practical demonstrations. Restoration too remains. "A meeting of patients with multiple sclerosis is part of psychotherapy," added Fainor. An integral part of the annual activities of the SZSM was the ability, a competitive overview of the skills and abilities of people with special needs, within the annual activities of the SZSM. more.
