Slovaks consume huge amounts of water: thanks to NASA developers, we save up to 90% when showering

Climatologists warn: In Slovakia, we must prepare for major changes in time in the future

Mehrdad Mahdjoubi, a scientist and executive director of Orbital Systems, invented a shower in 2012 that recycles his water. The main patent is a sensor that detects in a second whether to drain or return water. The other is a filter and a UV lamp that can quickly and effectively clean the waste water for cleaning water and immediately return it to the circulation. Thus, the person is repeatedly washed with the same water, which is cleaner than tap water.

"Due to our unique system we can save up to 90 percent of water in regular showers," added Roman Nedvěd from Agemon, representing orbital systems in Central Europe. Inventor, Swedish Mehrdad Mahdjoubi. his patent came in the framework of cooperation between the University of Lund and the NASA project "Travel to Mars". Today, it has more than 30 patents that are certified as space technology.

As a result, a ten-minute shower uses only five to ten liters of water. This is a significant savings compared to classic showering, where shower shower flows on average 50-100 liters per shower (in the case of daily consumption of a four-member family this number is much larger).

"The Slovaks show an average of 7-10 minutes. The average daily water consumption for the four-member family is 300-400 liters, so that if this system were to save energy, they would save about 270-360 liters a day, or 90 percent," stipulates Nedvěd.

Because of these savings, the average family can reduce water costs by 300-400 euros annually. However, we also need to calculate the savings for heating water, which, unless the owner has no energy saving measures, reaches a 1.5 times the price of water. This means that annual energy savings for heating water and water can reach approx. 900 euros.

"We have calculated the return on investment in a single-family house for 6 years. We are currently engaged in wet commercial activities such as swimming pools, sports centers, hotels or spas, as well as commercial development projects, university buildings, homes, bedrooms, sanitary facilities for employees in the company etc. In these operations, the return may take only one to two years, " adds Nedvěd.

Drought is also a topic in Slovakia. Although Slovakia is in a rare geological zone, water management companies have already considered limiting water consumption in some settlements to cooking, drinking and personal hygiene. In the summer months, surface water is becoming less common, and groundwater is decreasing. This is a fall in its level, which can affect our ecosystem. Water saving should therefore be considered seriously and responsibly.
