Astronomers have forgotten

The star could have fifty solar masses.

Observations of the Hubble Space Telescope have enabled scientists to discover a new cosmic mystery and learn what was seen as a blue supergiant star before the recent death.

The star shown above was at a distance of 65 million light-years from Earth, in a group of young stars in the spiral galaxy NGC 3938.

In the explosion, the supernova in the astronomical sense was almost "yesterday" – in 2017. However, the archive photographs of the Hubble Space Telescope enabled us to find out what it looked like in 2007 before the time of the explosion.

It turned out that the star could have fifty solar masses, and its combustion occurs at a high speed, that is, it was much stronger than our Sun.

The star was so hot that it lost its outer layers of hydrogen and helium. After the explosion, the spectral data showed a complete absence in the hydrogen and helium supernova, which enabled astronomers to classify it as supernovae type Ic.
