I know, I know, soon the model 992, which we already managed to drive, will soon appear. But 992th it will have to be very good to go beyond the version of the car for which this review is intended.
But this is standard Carrera T, right?
That's why I did not mean it! It just looks the same. Well, that's mostly it. The car was completed by Litchfield. I like what Litchfield is doing. In the past, the company increased the power of the Audi RS6 for 200 HP, improved the BMW M2 and gave Subaru BRZ much needed energy.
And this time?
Now the goal was to do the Porsche 911, which would be the best way to behave on the roads. And this is not an easy task, as Porsche already has such a car, GT3. But if we start with such improvements, it's best to start with Carrero T (features at the end of the article). Let me remind you: it's a lightweight, driver-oriented version of the standard Carrera – power is normal, but the weight is reduced by 20 kilograms. Reduced insulation, door handles made of fabrics, without rear seats, thinner glass and so on. As standard, the sports exhaust system and PASM suspension were lowered by 20 mm.
And what did Litchfield experts do?
The PASM adaptive shock absorbers were left, but the springs became more stubborn and shorter, and the lowering dropped further by 20 mm in front and 10 behind. Integrated 7-mm seals, why the wheels began to protrude more, which improves stability. Suspension components are still the same, and the front lower control arm has a solid solid sleeve, which not only improves control accuracy, but also changes as a travel, while keeping the wheel in a more correct position during the suspension.
All this is a difficult development …
I agree, so leave them in the halls and talk about the engine. This is still a known 3.0-liter six-speed engine. I know that Porsche adapts it so that Carrera S is stronger than Carrera and that the GTS is even stronger. We will not mention here the version with the big letter T (which means Turbo) because it has a different engine, which will make it difficult to rank.
It is clear that the power of the Carrera T (370 hp and a torque of 450 Nm) can be improved. In short, Litchfield just installed a new exhaust manifold and catalysts of its own design, installed the Akrapović exhaust system and then worked with the engine to adjust the fuel supply correctly, so that now it can power 485 hp and the torque equals 623 Nm. This is 115 KM and 173 Newton meters more than the standard version, in addition, these figures look good on the GT3 background (500 KM and 460 Nm).
But there is one "but". The engine is not atmospheric and can not gain 9000 rpm. And the gearbox is not six-speed manual, but seven-speed. If we count and reverse, then only eight steps. The specified performance data is not published, but it seems to me that this version will accelerate more quickly for about half a second. Carrera T is doing in four and a half seconds.
However, this is not only about speed, but also about control. I do not like the fact that Porsche started turbocharging on its cars, but turbocharged engines increase power. I never thought that the Carrera T in the lower part of the plant in the revolution is lacking agility, but this engine perfectly shows the dynamics much earlier and is accelerating faster. At 2400 rpm, it is taken. Goodbye, adyos, grateful to all those you see in the rear view mirror. And special efforts are not taken into consideration, just the sinking of the turbine, and those who lag behind you can only see the stripped back of the car. Although it is now less torn because the springs are more solid.
And that means you can reduce the third gear and do everything?
But fourth. The Porsche 911 partly criticizes for long transmissions, but this car has a seven-speed box and the latter is shorter – to emphasize the spirit of Carrere T. In addition, a good reversal eliminates all the issues. The lever of the gear lever is good and strong. I do not see a problem that others would describe in a seven-speed box. In my opinion, it changes well.
Of course, the turbocharging engine is very noticeable, but the turbines are small, they quickly achieve a start. At low speeds, the delay of the turbine is not a problem, but also at high speeds. Output power goes well and gradually – it appears at low revs and does not disappear, up to 7000. A fairly wide range.
What about acting?
Not as accurate as the GT3, but as a car that is built on the road, this car is not worse than GT3, if not better. I'm just saying. Depreciation did not touch, but with more rigid springs it became better. On the road this car drives better than the standard Carrera T, you get more feedback from the road surface – the response is more detailed.
But comfort did not suffer. As usual in the Porsche 911, the biggest problem for cruising is the comfortable tire noise, but in this version of the car you get at least the information you need to handle it. And this information does not come only through the fifth point, but also through the steering wheel. Installing the hard-core plug may seem like the smallest change, but this change has greatly affected the response to the control – it is good that the response control response has not been resolved, and sharpness has been added. In this case, the brakes remained their own Porsche, the modified carbon ceramic PCCB. They do not differ in any way (they work perfectly), but because the machine is more mounted on the stiffer springs, the bite is less under severe braking, the shift in weight is lower. Same with overclocking. And in the corners. The car better maintains its position, turning smooth and rigid, and the grip on the exit from the bow is incredible. I really enjoyed driving with this car. Yes, I am a masochist, I will choose the GT3 because it has 9000 turns and sharp dynamics, but I really like Litchfield Carrera T.
Is that all good news?
It depends on the kind of Porsche 911 you like. If you have Carrero now and you like it, but wondering how to behave if you were a bit more sporty, half of GT3, without sharp sound, then this is the answer to this question. When you start Litchfield Carrera T sounds great and cold, and when you drive in uneven sections of the road, the front end shakes like the old Porsche 911.
Several times, it seemed to me that the car was slightly rotating back and forth at the springs – a clue that the springs were not synchronized in front and behind. But then I said that we're not going to be a funny pedant and start enjoying the car for what it is. Being a very pleasant, very thoughtful and elaborate car, whose comfort and practicality did not even suffer, driving enjoyment only increased.
Damn, I do not have Carrere T to give such a package …
