Zinc oxide reduces unpleasant odor caused by bacteria and wound healing – Eurasia Review


New research presented at the European Congress of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ECCMID) in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, suggests that a formulation containing zinc oxide is effective in reducing aromatic odor by killing responsible bacteria and helping to heal wounds.

The study was conducted by Professor Magnus S. Ågren, Copenhagen Wound Treatment Center, Bispebjerg Hospital, Copenhagen, Denmark (where the study was conducted) and Khaled Saoud Ali Ghathian, Department of Clinical Microbiology, Hvidovre Hospital, Hvidovre, Denmark and colleagues.

In most cases, an odor from the armpit (under the armpit)
causes Corynebacterium spp. and Staphylococcus spp. The
the antimicrobial effects of zinc oxide (ZnO) were largely
documented. In experimental studies, ZnO prevented the formation of bacteria
fatty acids with short chains of bad odor. Furthermore, the actual ZnO
reduce the occurrence of corynebacteria and bad odor
surgical wounds that gave the researchers the idea to test
ingredient directly to the body odor.

Axilla is warm, moist and rich in nutrients

pH-dependent, the effectiveness may vary due to the pH of the skin surface.

The main goal of this double-blind, placebo-controlled trial
(ZINC-ON) has been studied whether the reuse of ZnO is formulated in
the oil-in-water emulsion reduces the odor under the armpits of healthy volunteers. The
association with the total growth of bacteria and in particular with
Corynebacterium spp. S. hominis was also studied. PH skin surface

the effect of treating wounds on ZnO was studied by evaluation
skin erythema and keratin in two standardized wounds
models: those caused by a contact lancet that produces small ones

The experiment included 30 healthy volunteers (15 women / 15 men) of mean value
aged 25.6 years. The left and right arteries of the participants were randomized
for the application of ZnO or placebo and for the treatment of 13 consecutive days with 5
visit the hospital. Participants were enrolled, deleted and
started treatment on day minus 8; on day 0 we received bacterial swabs
again and the wounds were caused, and then the participants were visible on
3rd, 4th and 5th day. On the last day of the visit, the participants asked
(1), or the difference in smell from the left is observed
and the right axillary and, if so, (2) to indicate which axis they have judged
compared to the smell.

Treatment with ZnO decreased compared to the very sensation of bad odor
placebo. Total growth of bacteria and in particular

Authors conclude: "Daily use of ZnO reduces unpleasant odors
of the axial and causal bacteria, the elevated pH of the skin surface and
weakened inflammation of the wound. "

Professor Ågren says: "We had the most frequent response
the participants were: "Where can I buy this fantastic product?". Although
it did not contain fragrances, such as normal deodorants
participants could find that it neutralized any bad odor under
