Over the past 11 years, AceBeach has been selling electronic devices that are difficult to find. The time when Apple's products accounted for half of AceBeach's sales, and in recent years, Apple has made it more difficult for third parties to sell used or new iPhones, iPads and Apple Watches.
The new agreement between Apple and Amazon will make it even more difficult. This could be a coup for many small online retailers and servers.
Amazon and Apple have reached an agreement that Amazon can include Apple and Beats products when they come out, such as the iPhone XS and XR. In return, Amazon will remove all unauthorized third parties who sell Apple products from the platform. The agreement will enter into force later this year and will apply to the sale of Amazon in the United States, the United Kingdom, Japan, France, Germany and Spain.
Amazon will sell and supply Apple products that it will buy directly from you. It also includes products from some of Apple's authorized distributors.
Distributors learned the changes on Friday, November 16th, in a letter from the Amazon that CNN Business received. They have until January 4, 2019 to sell their inventory; Later, Amazon will remove them from the list. Amazon advised to contact Apple if they want to become authorized distributors to continue selling products on the website.
"That's easy [una] aggression on outsiders, "said AceBeach, who demanded anonymity." They want people like me to go directly through Apple. "
Authorized Apple sellers must buy a minimum number of products per year, which is not reasonable for some retailers. Most sells immediately since Apple's product presentation in March and September, when stocks may be scarce. Third parties tend to buy new devices on the day they are sold in stores at Apple and Best Buy and are starting to fill the gap on Amazon. This is called the Apple Season.
Other small businesses sell used and refurbished devices: buy them from the original owners and repair them. These companies will have to have Apple's approval, which probably means that they will also have to become Apple-authorized service providers and that they will only be able to use Apple's official spare parts.
Unauthorized businesses may continue to sell Apple items on websites such as Ebay and Craigslist or on their website. But this is part of what they can do in the Amazon. In addition to its sales volume, Amazon offers more protection against fraud.
Amazon dominates the retail market in the United States and sings its closest competitor. According to eMarket, 49.1% of electronic retail sales in the United States is expected to reach 258 million dollars this year. In second place is Ebay, with 6.6% of sales. Apple is the third largest electronic sales location in the United States with 3.9% sales. It may seem a bit in comparison to Amazon, but it's impressive if you think Apple sells a limited range of products.
"Amazon is constantly striving to improve the user experience. One way to do this is to increase the range of products we know that customers are looking for," Amazon says in a statement on the change.
Amazon does not participate for the first time with retailers to combat external resellers. According to the owner of AceBeach, when they sold some of the popular toys, Amazon began to require explicit permission from manufacturers such as Hasbro to sell their products.
In 2013, the Supreme Court of the United States issued a decision stating the right of the people to resell any article that has been legally acquired, even though it is subject to copyright. But as a company, Amazon has full control over who can sell on its platform. Sometimes use this power against your competition. Amazon is hindering the sale of Google devices, such as the Chromecast, for competing with its smart speakers and portable devices. Even with this new agreement, Amazon does not want to sell Apple's HomePod because it competes with Amazon's Echo devices.
AceBeach's latest change will not be resolved because it has stopped selling Apple products. However, for small businesses selling online, they warn that their survival depends on the Amazon.
