Panaji: The upcoming International Film Festival of India (IFFI), to be held in Goa, will screen 212 films from 68 countries, the organizer said on Friday.

The festival will open with the film Julie Landais Aspern's documents, based on a novel written by renowned writer Henry James. On the opening day of the event, which will be held from November 20 to 28, star players will be present, including Jonathan Rhys-Meyers, Joely Richardson, Julia Robins, Morgane Polanski and Nicholas Howe.

"The international competition section has 15 films, three of which are Indian. This is a mandatory thing that happens in a given period of time." "The Competition Department presents films produced and co-produced by 22 different countries," Chaitanya Prasad said.

Israel was selected as the central country for the event, which will include a package of films from the Middle East, Prasad added.

"As far as countries are concerned, there are around 144 international films from 68 countries in the international section, of which 15 are recognized films that will be awarded for the Golden Peacock Award. We have two first-graders who are in the international competition," he said.

"There are two international premieres, 15 Asian premieres and about 60 Indian Prime Ministers," Prasad said, adding that 15 films that will be featured at the event were submitted as subscriptions for the Oscar Awards.

The festival will also have a retrospective part of the famous Swedish director Ingmar Bergman.
