Video of the incident is currently being assessed following accusations by singer Gil Ofarim of anti-Semitism against employees at a Leipzig hotel.
“Surveillance cameras secured several videos,” a spokesman for the German press office in Leipzig said on Sunday. The evaluation has not yet been completed, so no information can be provided on the content.
BILD has already reported that surveillance videos can raise questions about the events described and also relate to investigative circles.
Accordingly, the chain with the Star of David should not be clearly visible in the videos. “What exactly can be seen in the video is part of an ongoing investigation,” a police spokeswoman at the Leipzig police headquarters said at the request.
BILD am Sonntag quoted the singer as follows: “The sentence that came up came from behind. That means someone recognized me. It’s not about the chain. It’s actually about something much bigger. Because they can often see me on TV with the Star of David, I was offended by that. “
► Gil Ofarim rejected at the Leipzig Hotel because of the Star of David
► Incident with anti-Semitism involving Gil Ofarim – none of the other guests helped
Ofarim described in a video in early October that an employee of “The Westin Leipzig” asked him to remove his necklace with the Star of David. Ofarim is the son of Israeli musician Abi Ofarim (1937-2018) and grew up in Germany. Ofarim complained.
The Leipzig Public Prosecutor’s Office has received several reports of the incident – including from a hotel employee accused of defamation. According to previous claims, he describes events differently than the artist.
