An experimental drug promises protection against allergies to peanuts

An experimental drug derived from peanuts has protected some children and adolescents with life-threatening allergies to peanuts, according to a study that allows subjects to eat small quantities of peanuts without a serious reaction.

The drug, from California's small company, Aimmune Therapeutics, did not work for everyone, it has some side effects and has not been approved by the regulators for sale. However, findings from subsequent trials promise a potentially new solution for peanut allergies, an increasing concern.
