Chris Jericho appeared on SiriusXM's Busted Open Radio, where he talked about his new deal with All Elite Wrestling. He discussed his impact on the huge upswing of the New Japan Pro-Wrestling in 2018 and explained why he could do the same for AEW. He described that the move was similar when Hulk Hogan left WWF for WCW.
How it affected the NJPW business:
I think I was the part of the puzzle that they definitely needed at the moment, because what I do for this company is the same as I did for New Japan last year. Now I will not say that this is my job that brought New Japan [selling out Madison Square Garden], but this is a big reason. The new Japan has become very hot in the past year with many people who have never before seen it. Many executives and fans who never watched [became fans] because it was examined last year in Tokyo Dome. Perhaps they heard of this New Japan, they might have known some of the guys who were in it, but they were not alert to them. So when Jericho appears there, it's like, "Oh, my God, Chris Jericho is there? Let me check," and then watch the show and see, "Oh my God, you know, Jericho is great, but look, Kenny and we have Okada and Tanahashi and The Young Bucks and Cody are there now, and Ibushi is there. "
Why it will do the same with AEW:
I think it's the same [AEW] and with a legitimate legend. The legendary boy, Chris Jericho, is there and still very important, and people said: "The hottest free agent in the business." I do not think there is anyone else who could go there who would have the same effect. . If Hulk Hogan was brought there, people would like to say: "Oh, that's just being restored." Or, if you brought Goldberg, it's like, "Well, well, we have not seen him for some time. Maybe it's money." But with Jericho everyone was waiting to see where he was going. Most people said, "Yes, he will speak with other places, but he will probably end up in WWE." When I'm not, it's true that the Hugh Hogan version of 1994 is on WCW, but it's a much colder, more modern version of this type of name, because I did not do anything, but I'm building my brand again and people who are wondering what Jericho will do in 2019. So when I showed up at a press conference, everyone knows now and I think that the AEW people take a lot more seriously than they did this before I was involved.
