Google is in the process of deploying Google Assistant navigation to users of Google Maps Android and iOS.
According to a press release on January 8, 2019, users will be able to ask an assistant to exchange travel ETA, reply to text messages, play music and podcast, search for places along the way, and even automatically switch messages.
"On Android, Assistant works with the following messaging services: SMS, WhatsApp, Messenger, Hangouts, Viber, Telegram, Android Messages and more" is written in an excerpt of the same January 8th.
"When you drive, the server automatically calculates your ETA from Google Maps to send your arrival time to your friends."
In December 2018, Google issued an update aimed at making the server less annoying while driving.
The update allowed Google Assistant to perform tasks in the background, so users called in the Maps interface.
