Cristiano Ronaldo crowned Juve with the Super Cup

Italian hegemon Juventus won a record 9th Super Cup in the country after beating Napoli 2-0 at the Mapei Stadium in Reggio Emilia.

The usual suspect Cristiano Ronaldo has become a hero for the champions. The five-time Golden Ball winner scored 1-0 in the 64th minute of the match. Lorenzo Insigne later missed a penalty, making him a big sinner for the Southerners. Deep in added time, Alvaro Morata formed the final score.

Juventus was a better team on the field and deservedly won. Thus, the “Old Lady” is again the super champion of Italy, after this recognition was taken away from her by Lazio a year ago.

Juan Cuadrado returned to the starting lineup after taking a negative coronavirus test this morning, traveling to Reggio Emilia in the afternoon and being thrown from the 1st minute. He took his place on the right side of the defense, Danilo stood on the left side. Dejan Kulushevski preferred Alvaro Morata as Cristiano Ronaldo’s attacking partner.

Giovanni Di Lorenzo returned to Napoli after missing a 6-0 defeat to Fiorentina on penalties. The attack was led by the uncorrected Andrea Petania, followed by Gennaro Gattuso betting on captains Lorenzi Insigne, Piotr Gielinski and Irving Lausanne. Driss Mertens, who is also not one hundred percent ready, sat down on the bench.

It was the fourth match of both teams for the Italian Super Cup. Before him, Napoli had two wins, 5-1 in 1990 and penalties in 2014. Juve’s only success in 2012 was 4-2 after extra time. Opponents have played against each other for the first time this season because the championship match has not yet taken place.

It was postponed due to two cases of coronavirus in Naples. Initially, the “Parthenopeans” were penalized with the deprivation of one point and the official victory of Juventus, but after an appeal, it was decided to play the match, but the date is not yet.

The first half at Mapei Stadium did not offer a spectacle and passed with an exchange of dominance. From the start, Cristiano Ronaldo fought and shot, but inaccurately. Danilo later escaped, but the shot was saved by David Ospina. There was also an ambush in the attack, which was later marked.

Gradually, Napoli leveled the game and boldly looked ahead. Wojciech Szczesny’s Lorenzo Insigne’s long shot really ought to have found the net 29 minutes into the match, but it fell just wide of the target. Irving Lozano ran onto a great ball from Irish Lozano, which beat the offside trap, the keeper came rushing out and the lob was attempted, but the lob didnt succeed.

In the 40th minute, Ronaldo received a good pass and shot from the edge of the penalty area, but over the crossbar. By the end of the half, Leonardo Bonucci tried to intercept after a foul, but was overtaken by Ospina.

The second half started with a big pass for Juve. Intercepted by Weston McKenna after Federico Bernardeschi, who made a spectacular block. The champions continued to press and a dangerous shot by Rodrigo Bentancourt was blocked by Mayo Rui.

In the 64th minute, Ronallo and Juan Cuadrado fought for the ball on their side, and the Portuguese centered. But just before McKenny intercepted, the defender put it in the corner. After his performance, there was a commotion, the ball hit Timo Bakayoko and came to Cristiano, who from close range could not make a mistake for 1: 0!

After 79 minutes, VAR’s Paolo Valeri found the back of the goal with a beautiful free kick. In the situation, Dries Mertens entered the back of McKenne, who tried to pass but kicked the Belgian. The scorer was Lorenzo Insigne. In the 95th minute, Lozano could have sent the match into extra time, but Schesni saved it. A counter-attack for Juve followed, in which Quadrado found Alvaro Morata, who scored for the final 2-0 and Torino won the Super Cup.
