The most important novelty in this section for our market is the announcement of a commercial presentation of the Nissan Leaf, one of the world's best-selling products, and whose commercialization will start pre-selling this month, then go to official sales in April. Cars of this kind are of course not necessarily the same. We have already tested Kangoo Z.E. and Baic EX260, but each in its own case responds to a different configuration than Leaf.

The first two are in some ways a version of the 100% electric drive of the product, which has a conventional version, but Nissan has since established its one hundred percent electric vehicle. This is, by the way, "credible" electric, conceived from scratch. To find out more about this model, we contacted a test unit of Nissan Argentina, which is configured in accordance with US regulations, within a few days, the reason why we could not experience the operation of the system. powering home. Neither at charging stations, because until the end of this release, when the free Axion station was open (see news from the first pages), it was not possible to use it.

However, this first contact has allowed us to test Leaf behavior, response of mechanical components and chassis, conditions of comfort and safety, and especially autonomy: the Japanese brand ensures that with full charge of batteries. can travel 389 kilometers, which is, according to our experience, theoretically optimistic. In practice This was the first experience for many of us that besides routine tests we were driving a car of this kind in a "normal" environment, that is, a lot of city and another route. We started with the concessionaire, where they gave us a full load car and a computer that accused us of 272 kilometers of autonomy. Of course, this value depends on the use and conditions in which it circulated so far, which is very difficult to know.

The truth is that for us, on the day of very high heat circulating with air conditioning in 22 years, the values ​​on the line are 9.0 km / kw to 90 km / h and 5.5 km / kw to 120 km / h. What do these data mean? We are also asking ourselves, because, despite the technical aspects, accustomed to "liters", it is difficult to measure such measures. However, the data sheet explains the picture slightly: the lithium-ion batteries of the vehicle accumulate up to 40 kw, from which we conclude that With a constant of 90 km / h we can travel 360 km, while we will reach 120 km / h barely 220 km. Needless to say, as long as there are no carriers on the road, it is difficult to get rid of this car, for example, from Buenos Aires to the Atlantic coast.

But the power of this type of vehicle is undoubtedly a place. If theoretically, when the computer informed us when we removed it, Leaf has 270 kilometers of autonomy, the one who has the installation of the charger in the house will be able to do up to 135 kilometers in one direction and the other so backwardsenough distance for the majority that comes and goes from work. Traveling in a vehicle where only the sound of rolling and wind sounds, depending on speed, first becomes unusual, but once you get used to it, it creates a pleasant feeling. The same happens when accelerating and immediately pushing, as the electric motors provide a high torque from zero turning. Also, you rarely drive almost all the time with a single pedal. This is achieved by selecting the e-Pedal mode via the key. With this configuration, the vehicle essentially stops when the accelerator pedal is released until it is fully stopped, although if it is necessary to act more urgently, of course, it has a traditional brake pedal, as if the vehicle were used in a vehicle. standard way.

The battery can be recharged in three ways: in fast urban charging stations (such as Axion or in the same Ferro de San Isidro store, where we removed it): it takes 40 minutes to return 80 percent of the batteries. Another alternative is the standard load with a wall-mounted box that can be easily installed in houses and which returns the full load within eight hours. Our unit was equipped with a cable that included a module and adapters for local sockets, but, as we said, for some reason we could not pay by connecting to the home network.

In addition to silence, the leaf has a special feature that has a very low center of gravity since the batteries that have a major impact on the heavy 1,580 kilograms of the unit are at the level of the bottom of the body. Therefore, an appropriate dynamic response is appropriate. The comfort of driving in the city is also worth the vehicles of a higher category.

In an environment with a high level of quality, the driver will find very comfortable front seats for the correct driving position, which is normally raised despite electric seat movements. It is strange that the steering wheel is not regulated in depth. The backbone is quite large for a compact, though the wrong tunnel is limited by the one that travels the center.


As a good technology vehicle this second generation of Leaf has exceptional equipment, plus some "accessories" that are not yet well known in local cars. We have noticed that you have, for example, heated seats and a steering wheel that probably consume a lot of batteries. However, we have found that such systems, as well as the air conditioning system, have a programmable timer that is automatically activated when the vehicle is connected. It also has flexible travel speed control, a reversing camera and beyond, with a useful image so that the right front wheel does not rub against the string. All this is reflected in a seven-inch multimedia display that will have 8 in the case of the one manufactured in the UK (and sold here). "The leaf we are processing also has the Bose audio system. Equipment failure for objects is the adoption of a temporary help wheel, something that is not very convenient, especially in our wide and often empty territory.

The dashboard is another detail of this model. It has an analogue speed meter, the rest is fully digital, with plenty of information available, such as battery charge status and residual autonomy. It can also measure the energy consumption of the engine, air conditioning and other activated devices, charging time, etc.

As far as safety is concerned, the model to arrive in Argentina will include six airbags, ABS, four-wheel drive wheels, traction control, stability control, start-up support and a lane change warning, among several other elements.

In the braking tests, Leaf stopped at a length of 48.2 meters. In this slowdown process, the effects of systems that are responsible for electric regeneration through the brakes are noticeable, as highlighted in e-Pedal mode.
