This does not happen if the Aspergillus fumigatus pathogen is involved. Gliotoxin ensures that the production of leukotrieneB4 selenium in neutrophil granulocytes is inhibited, so that they can not send signals to other immune cells. This causes the secretion of a specific enzyme (LTA4 hydrolase) with mycotoxin.

"This interrupts the communication between the immune cells and destroys the defense mechanism. Therefore, for spores – in this case fungus – it is easy to enter the body to infiltrate the tissues or organs," Werz said.
